What Is The Loft?

The Loft is a collaborative partnership which operates a shared workspace and reception, so that people need only walk through one front door to access all of the support they need. This ‘one-stop-shop’ approach reduces the multiple barriers (including financial, emotional, physical, and geographical) that commonly restrict access to support, and thereby sustain wellbeing inequalities. The Loft also operates a Social Emergency Response Service (SERS) that is designed to ensure that tamariki/children and their whānau are rapidly connected to the right services at the right time in a way that is relationship-centred. The support given by SERS puts people at the centre and does not ask people seeking assistance to describe their needs (‘self-diagnose’). Instead, SERS supports people to tell their stories. This approach enables clients to uncover the relationship between their experiences and needs (e.g. mental health, domestic violence, finance, housing) and so begin to develop sustainable, rather than reactive plans.
