What Is Tenacity?

Tenacity created Rallying to Serve in 2003, a program capacity building plan which outlined the growth and implementation steps necessary for Tenacity to serve 5,000 students on an annual basis by 2009. To reach this goal, Tenacity created a $12 million fundraising plan in fiscal year 2004, and has achieved its interim program growth and fundraising goals and is on track to realize its multi-year vision. The plan has led to not only increased resources, but also to growth and improvement of service delivery such that the City of Boston and cities nationwide have begun looking to Tenacity as a national model of youth development programming. Tenacity was founded by Ned Eames who, as President, oversees the overall management and strategic direction of Tenacity. Ned's business experience includes five years in sales and marketing prior to becoming a management consultant to Fortune 500 companies from 1991 to 1997. Ned's business consulting work focused on strategic organizational change. He earned his MBA from Boston University. Ned was Captain of the San Diego State Men's Tennis Team in 1982 and 1983 and played professionally on the ATP Satellite Tour for three years from 1983 to 1985. Ned serves as a member of the United States Tennis Association's National Junior Tennis League Committee, whose mission is to develop the character development, education, and life skills of urban youth across the nation. The Summer Tennis & Reading Program Director will work in close collaboration with Andy Crane, who currently runs the summer program for Tenacity and will focus his energy on transitioning his roles and responsibilities to the new Director. A former Defender General of the State of Vermont and Executive Director of the Massachusetts State Ethics Commission, Andy comes to Tenacity with significant volunteer experience in youth tennis for the City of Boston, including eight years as the Chairperson of the Boston Latin School Tennis Association, the organizing and supervising of numerous tennis programs, and a membership in the Eastern Mass State Committee of USA Tennis New England. Rounding out Tenacity is a full-time staff of 27 and more than 200 seasonal employees and 250 volunteers. Tenacity's 2008 operating budget is $3.4 million.
